Government Parties essays

Government Parties essays The National Wildlife Federation is a conservation group that is spread throughout the United States. They range from good old Alaska, to Vermont, to Texas, and a lot of other states. They were founded in 1936, by J.N. Darling. Their main focus is education. They believe that books and hands-on nature programs will provide the information to children and adults that they need to be aware of certain situations. They also hope that it will inspire the people to love and protect nature. Here in Alaska the NWF wants to protect several different things. One of them is the Arctic Refuge. They think that it is not an appropriate spot to drill for oil. They claim that ANWR is too wild to waste. They also say that anyone who loves Americas wildlife would speak-out and try to protect it. Another thing that they want to protect is the wetlands. One of the specific wetlands they want to protect is The Copper River Delta. It is actually a wetlands complex and covers 700,000 acres. This area is vulnerable to logging and mining. The NWF is the nations largest member-supported conservation group. Mark Van Putten is the current president of this organization. To inform people of their ideas they pass out flyer, have commercials, and pass out petitions. The NWF also has seminars, inviting people to join in their cause. NWFs main goal is to raise awareness and to get people of all ages to help fight to conserve wildlife. Greenpeace was started in 1971 be a small but determined group of activists. They boarded an 80-foot boat that was headed for the ocean. They were to witness the weapons testing planned for Amchitka Island. Thats when they started Greenpeace, which is now the largest environmental movement in the world. They are also the leading independent campaigning organization that uses a non-violent approach to inform people about the environmental pro ...

Meet the Celestial Bull and his Angry Red Eye

Meet the Celestial Bull and his Angry Red Eye Theres a starry bull in the sky called Taurus, the Bull that is visible from late October through March each year in the evening and pre-dawn skies. The face of the bull actually shows up in a vee-shaped  star cluster  in the sky that you can observe pretty easily. Its called the Hyades (pronounced HIGH-uh-deez) and is a naked-eye object for most people. Its also visible to stargazers from almost anywhere on the planet. To find it, search out the constellation Taurus using a star chart or digital astronomy app.   Thank the Ancients for Their Astute Observations We owe our ancient stargazing ancestors a great deal when it comes to exploring fascinating things in the sky. For example, Greek astronomers identified the Hyades and its nearby neighbor - the Pleiades star cluster - thousands of years ago. Other cultures noted it, too, seeing everything from the face of a bull to the figures of gods and goddesses in the structure. There are star tales for just about every object in the sky, from every culture that has lived on our planet. The Hyades were thought to be the daughters of the god Atlas, and sisters to another group of daughters portrayed by the Pleiades. The Greeks werent the only ones to tell tales involving these clusters. The Maori, for example, also told tales of the Hyades and Pleiades, as did cultures in ancient North America, China, and Japan. They were a popular sight and topic for mythology.   The Stars of the Hyades In reality, the Hyades are more closely related to another star cluster called Praesepe, or the Beehive, which is an early spring object for Northern Hemisphere observers. Astronomers have long suspected that these two clusters had a common origin in an ancient cloud of gas and dust. The Hyades stars lie about 150 light-years away from us and formed some 625 million years ago. They travel together through space in the same direction. Eventually, even though they do have a slight gravitational attraction for each other, they will go their separate ways, just as the Pleiades will do. At that point, even though their stars may have unlinked from the cluster, theyre still traveling along the original trajectory. Astronomers call them moving group or a moving cluster.   There are about 400 stars in the Hyades, but we only see about 6 or 7 with the naked eye. The four brightest Hyades stars are red giants, types of stars that are aging. Theyve run through their nuclear fuel and are heading toward old age and eventual destruction. These stars are part of the V shape that ancient stargazers thought made up the face of a celestial bull named Taurus.   Meet the Eye of the Bull: Aldebaran The brightest star in the Hyades really isnt in the Hyades. Its called Aldebaran and its name was, like so many other star names, based in mythology. It happens to lie on the line of sight between us and the Hyades. Its an orange-hued giant that lies only 65 light-years away. Aldebaran is an old star that will eventually exhaust all its fuels and could eventually explode as a supernova before collapsing to form a neutron star or a black hole. Unlike Betelgeuse (the supergiant star in Orions shoulder, which could explode anytime as a supernova), Aldebaran will likely be around for millions of years. Both the Hyades and Pleiades are open clusters. There are many of these groupings of stars in the Milky Way and other galaxies. They are associations of stars born in the same clouds of gas and dust but are not tightly bound together by gravity as stars in globular clusters do. The Milky Way contains at least a thousand of these collections of stars and astronomers study them to understand how stars of similar ages evolve over time. From the time they form together in their birth clouds to the time they die, cluster members show us how stars of roughly the same age, but different masses, can change over time. Those changes are what lead to the astonishing diversity of stars in the universe.   The highest-mass stars in the Hyades will use up their nuclear fuel very fast and die after a few hundreds of millions of years. Those same stars use up tremendous amounts of the original cloud as they form, which reduces the supply of star-making material available to their sibling stars. So, like the Hyades, many open star clusters contain members that are the same age, but some look older than others.

Criminal Justice, Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 2000 words

Criminal Justice, - Essay Example This is because the criminal justice system of the United States acts as a benchmark of the most developed justice system in the world making it a basic eternal model. The crime control model works efficiently within the criminal justice system by punishing crime and in the process serving as the best tool to detour the occurrence of criminal behavior. It is important to note that the due process model and the crime control model are two frameworks within the criminal justice system under conflict throughout the world for many years. Proponents of the due process model hold that nobody can deprive of life of any individual, freedom, and material wealth including property disregarding the legal processes as well as safeguards. The due process framework requires the criminal justice system to protect the rights of nay person charged with crime. However, the crime control framework for enforcing law bases on the assumption of complete reliability of facts collected by police officers and handles people arrested by the disciplined forces as guilty. In this case, the arrestees are guilty and proceed to the courts to prove their innocence. On the other hand, the due process considers the arrestees innocent and assigns the criminal justice system the responsibility of proving that they are guilty. This marks the first difference between the due process and the crime control model. The two frameworks present the most competing models within the criminal justice system and result in the ever-increasing tension bringing d isharmony and conflict presently observable within the same system. The models aim at challenging crime but insist on issuing the most appropriate justice to both the law enforcers and the arrestees. Professor Herbert, designed the due process model to make sure that people arrested and charged with crime have their rights protected and receive fair trial as well as judgment. The model insists on the

Management information system Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 2000 words

Management information system - Essay Example Confidentiality ensures that the information is not accessed by any person who is not authorized. Integrity ensures that the data is not modified or altered by unauthorized users and authentication deals with ensuring that the user is actually the person he claims to be. These days computers are used by everyone from banking to shopping and communicating with others. Though there might not be any secret information in your data but one would not want a stranger getting access to his/her information. Intruders often gain control to anyone’s computer so that they can use it for their attacks on other confidential systems. According to (Caldwell 175) computer security has five fundamental functional areas which are listed below: Risk Avoidance This is a basic security fundamental which deals with questions like unrestricted internet access, business engaging in risky activities and standardization on a desktop operating system. Prevention This consists of implementing security to the system in order to avoid any attacks. Complete prevention is desirable but not achievable. Deterrence It deals with the threats to information assets, consisting of communication strategies which are developed and designed to catch the intruders when they attack the system. Detection It works well with preventive measures. When prevention fails, detection should be started in order to minimize the damage. It also includes activities like log-keeping and auditing. Recovery When all measures fail and the intruder has successfully attacked the system and nothing has worked, it is important to focus on recovery. Includes backing up servers, internet connections and other similar recovery activities. Attacking Techniques There have been various techniques used by intruders these days to attack a single computer or a network. Some of them are listed and described briefly below: Viruses A virus is such a program that when it is executed it works within the security policy completely. When a virus is activated, that is when it becomes a part of a process; it makes use of a Trojan horse to look for the authorized environment for executable programs which are modifiable and then attaches itself with all such programs. Hence, when these programs are executed, the virus activates and spreads throughout the executable code of the computer. Viruses can create, modify, move, replicate and erase the files on a computer in order to engage much of the computer’s memory and causes the system not to function properly. Some viruses even have the ability to duplicate themselves and attack to other programs. An infected email attachment is one of the most common and easy ways to get a virus. (Caldwell 212) Trojan Horse A Trojan horse attack can be designed to attain any desired goals by the attacker. Trojan horse attacks are one of the most serious threats to computer security. If a computer has been attacked with a Trojan horse, it may not be the only computer under att ack but unknowingly it is used to attack several other computers. Trojan Horses are usually built and attached to the source code of an original program and is made to remain dormant until an attempt is made to overcome security. For example a Trojan horse may appear in the form of a computer game, which once double clicked, starts writing on parts of your hard drive, corrupting the data. Trap door A trapdoor is normally an entrance to the

Hans and the Romans Essay Example for Free

Hans and the Romans Essay The Hans and the Romans both had very fascinating views on their technology. While The Han’s attitude toward technology was viewed as a positive contribution to their society the Romans had positive views other Romans had negative attitudes. Every document has its own opinions on the way they appreciate technology some support which is making then look good, while some think it’s for low class people and not for government. In order to fully analyze Han and Roman attitudes toward technology it would have been helpful to have an additional document of an interview with a Roman laborer because all of the other documents were from higher class Romans who did not work with tools and such technology. Documents 1, 8 agree with each other because the upper class people believed that technology is great and is needed. Document 1 by a Han government official said that the empire needed to be protected more fully, because it’s the government responsibility. While document 8 by a Roman general and a water commissioner said that water is easy to use and is pleasurable, because he is sticking up for himself so he can look good. Documents 2, 5 and, 7 agree in a way that they all think upper class and government should not be at the use of technology, they believe that lower classes like peasants should be the ones dealing with technology. Document 2 by a Han government official states that tools were made way better by individual families like the lower classes than the ways made by government and upper classes, so he believes only lower class people should deal with technology not government. Document 5 by an upper class Roman political leader says workshops are horrible when they are controlled by government he would much rather have lower class do it because they are much better at it. Document 7 by an upper class Roman philosopher states that Technology belongs to the lower class because the upper class are too good and special to use such technology. Documents 3, 4 and 6 agree by the ways that government and upper class should be in control of such technology. Document 3 by an Upper class Han philosopher says that their work that they did help the make more revenue by getting the power of many animals and help increasing their money by 10 fold, so he thinks that government should control technology and he like the money and the recognition of his efforts . Document 6 by a Roman high official says that the roads that are built by the government are special, and that they have parallel height, with a beautiful appearance. So he agrees that government and upper class should control technology because they make great things out of it. Document 4 by the history of the early Han dynasty stated Ti Shih was an upper class governor that invented many things of technology and took great care of his people. The reason this is being stated is that so That the government can look good for technology. Romans and Han have very different opinions based on the way their empire is run and what the government and people do in it. The Romans and the Hans were both big empires that had many thoughts on the uses of their technology.

The Need to Use Classroom Computers More Efficiently :: Education Teaching

The Need to Use Classroom Computers More Efficiently Author Clifford Stoll has chosen to explore the value of today's technology in the classroom. In his article, "On Classrooms, With and Without Computers", he makes a claim of value in the first sentence by questioning "How well does our new technology fit into the classroom?" (413). With this question he effectively identifies his purpose and audience as a broad-based readership of students, teachers, administrators, and parents. These concerned readers are immediately drawn in by his abrupt claim; however, he may eliminate a more general or deeply intellectual audience by making his claim so readily apparent. Stoll asks his readership to explore the positive and negative outcomes of relying heavily on computers as a form of education. Although it is unclear in the beginning of his discussion which side he will take, he later expresses a sincere concern for the consequences of our growing dependency on this style of teaching. Because of this, his opening paragraph is a strikingly pow erful lead. Moving from this nicely articulated claim to his support, Stoll relies on an underlying assumption to establish the logic of his argument. His stated warrant "If a child doesn't have a questioning mind, what good does all this networked technology do?" (415), stimulates the readers' ethical concern that their children receive adequate education before incorporating technological advancements into the classroom. Stoll continues to evaluate the excessive use of computers by describing how simple tasks, such as finding pizza prices for a geography project, prove to be the wrong use of resources. Using pizza as an example works well for the reader because it's a simple analogy to which they find easier to relate. Stoll is also careful to define certain phrases used in the computer debate; for example, when he uses the phrase "What do we mean by computer literacy?" (414). He breaks away from his original argument in his essay to clarify this term for his readers. By doing this, he success fully identifies their need for a clear explanation of such widely used phrases before he attempts to debate it. He avoids confusing his audience by recognizing their need for definition. Although an academic readership may find this pause to serve as an unnecessary interruption, his target audience will appreciate his display of sincere concern for their understanding. Defining such terms first, enables him to use them more convincingly later in his article. Overpopulation in China

The population of the world today is increasing greatly each day. For years now, China's population has been over one billion and just recently a family in India gave birth to the one-billionth child. The estimated birth per day in India is an overwhelming 42,000 births. At this rate, there will not be enough land for inhabitants to live and survive in. Over-population causes many difficulties, for example China faces many problems such as crowded living arrangements. Some families do not even have enough income to feed their children a proper meal. The amount of people not only affects the families but also the country itself. For instance, for the amount of people, there may not be enough jobs. Proper health care may not be provided, because there are just too many people, which may cause a lot of health problems. A child's education is also at risk because there will be too many students in one classroom for one teacher to teach. Also, some countries may experience a shortage in food because there may be such a great demand for it that the country itself may not be able to provide the food in the amounts that are needed. Over population also causes less serious problems, things such as crowed sidewalks and streets. Too many cars on the road would also cause the problem of pollution. These everyday hassles would cause a person much frustration and undue stress, which could be avoided if the population was not too great. Suggestions have been made to decrease this problem, theories have been studied and yet implementation of these objectives have not been properly sought through. Although, there are two very good suggestions for this problem which include, the government passing a law that only allows a family to have two children and no more, a law such as this one has already been introduced in China. This may not seem fair but in countries such as these, it is necessary, to avoid such problems. The other is as simple as sex education. This solution may seem worthless, but would slowly show results. If solutions such as these were used in countries for instance, like China and India, from the beginning, then the problem of population would not even be an issue today. As stated above, the government intervening on this problem and allowing a family only a certain amount of children is an excellent solution. Having a limit on how many children a family is allowed to have is a great way to control the problem in the hopes of decreasing the problem of over population. In order to make certain that families do not go over the limit, the government should do yearly checks on the families. This would consist of a member of the government looking in the family files and seeing how many people are situated in a family. If a family exceeds the limit of two children, then the parents should be responsible in paying a fine or paying more taxes yearly. If the family exceeds the limit of two children, but the child is not born yet or is a new born the parents should have the choice of giving up the child to a couple that is unable to get pregnant with the certainty that the child will know who his or her biological parents are and be allowed to have contact with them if they wish to do so. If the parents do not agree with the first option then, the other choice they have is to pay more taxes each year. This way, only the families that can afford more then two children will be able to have bigger families. Having this law implemented not only decreases the problem of over population, but gives the children a better quality of life. Parents will take on more responsibility knowing what they will face such as an increase in their taxes or get fines if they exceed the limit of children the government has allowed them. It may not seem fair that the government be allowed to have this kind of control, but in such extreme cases it is needed so that the problem does not get too far out of hand. The world already has two countries that have a population of over one billion and there are probably other countries that are over populated when compared to the amount of land that they have, that is why it is necessary to have a law such as this one being practiced by such countries who need it to avoid all the other problems that can occur. This next suggestion of sex education may sound like such a simple solution, because in North America it is taught to every student, but other countries may not teach it like its taught here and this may be a contributing factor to why population is becoming a bigger problem. Sex education is very important not only for the individuals protection against disease, but so that the person is aware of all the options that are available for birth control. If people were taught that it is alright to use birth control then maybe use of it would be practiced. There are so many different methods of birth control that one should not feel as though one specific technique makes him or her uncomfortable and therefore he or she will not use it. Sex is such a private subject that causes many people to feel uncomfortable discussing it, but if schools were to start teaching it along with teaching students abstinence at an early age, then, when the time comes for the individual to take some responsibility, he or she will not be embarrassed to do so. Doctors should also teach their patients the different types of birth control that are available for them to use and also make it easily accessible for the patients to get them, that way there is nothing holding an individual back from using them. Another way of informing people of birth control other than through schools and doctors is to have advertising, through television and radio, magazines, and billboard signs. That way people are facing the issue everyday and may realize that the use of birth control is not such a bad idea. People will grow to be more comfortable with the issue of sex and birth control and just maybe then the problem of over population will decrease and families will consists of less children which will also decrease the poverty level of that many families face. Even though a lot of people may not agree with the action that is taking place in order to correct over population, it must be done. Children are not living the quality of life that they should be living, they are not getting the proper meals and are therefore not as healthy and are malnourished, and their education is at risk because classrooms are getting crowed with too many children. The streets are too busy and cramped; cars on the road are causing more pollution. Controlling the population would decrease the amount of families that live in poverty because families that are able to afford more children would only have big families while the other families would have just two children and they would not be struggling to give their kids the proper quality of life. Although it seems as though the solution to the problem of over population is simple and that by the government passing laws or having the proper education for these people is just going to make the problem disappear, it will not. The process will be very long and results will not be seen so soon, this may cause a lot of anger in people because their lives are being changed so drastically and in some cases they may feel as though they are being asked to change their morals and also because no formal results will be seen so soon. Over population is just one problem, but in fact has a snowball effect and causes many more problems that have been stated above. If people were able to realize these problems and be willing to help out by taking birth control and not contribute to the problem that the world is facing today, then maybe one day over population would not be an problem any more and would just seem like issue that was dealt with.

Political Discourse Essay

Political incivility has been around for a very long time. According to the article â€Å"The Rise and Fall of Nasty Politics in America†, a number of studies have been conducted to prove that politics has always been â€Å"a bit rough†. Many people in and out of the political world are agreeing that politics these days have turned in to a horrible cycle. Politics today involves nasty language about fellow members families, angry protests and violent outbursts. Sometimes racial slurs and discrimination is also involved in bringing down your opponent. Furthermore, political incivility has caused a variety of problems in American politics throughout the years. Knowing this, what are some of the things that can be done to help increase political civility? Political incivility has caused a variety of problems in the political process. Politics today is often biased based off of the partisan media and views of opposing sides of various parties. According to the article â€Å"What Is Civil Engagement Argument and Why Does Aspiring to It Matter? † the partisan media only shares those facts that are inconvenient to their opponents, engage emotion, and replace argument with ridicule causing many of the listeners or viewers to have angry views of the policies on the opposing side. Allowing the partisan media to be broadcasted for Americans to see causes outrage and incivility in the world around us. This brings me to my next point where the violence in the political world is getting out of control. The violence that occurs includes both physical and emotional attacks by the opposing parties. For example, the district office of a Georgia representative was defaced with a swastika, and the lawmaker, who happens to be African American, has been the recipient of racist hate mail (Shea and Sproveri, 417). There have also been many other instances where racial violence was used including during the final health-care reform meetings. A lot of the protesters yelled out racial slurs at the African American members of Congress. Also during this time one of the legislators was spat on while entering the Capitol Building to cast his vote (Shea and Sproveri, 417). This type of violence causes politicians to lack the motivation to run for office. Olympia Snowe, a former Senate member, finds it very frustrating that the atmosphere of polarization and the â€Å"my way or the highway† ideologies has become persuasive in campaigns and in our governing institutions (Maisel, 408). She is resigning from office and decided not to run for her forth term in office. Other politicians are afraid of ridicule about their families and therefore will not be running for office any longer. Another reason that political discourse is harming the American political process is it is influencing the ability of govern. â€Å"Incivility leads to an inability to govern and, therefore, more can be done in other areas† (Maisel, 408). The inability to govern leads the government officials to detach from politics and take interest in other areas. Also, politicians in today’s era have only one thing on their mind and that is to win. They do not care about the common good or the similar believes of the opposing parties. All they want to do is finish on top. This situation is causing the president and other officials to lack the ability to pass laws that may benefit the whole population. â€Å"According to NBC News-Wall Street Journal poll conducted in the fall of 2011, more than four out of five voters felt that the Congress’s decisions on the debt ceiling were decisions made for partisan political advantages† (Maisel, 408). This is problematic because it brings other officials to not want to run for office and for the population to be dissatisfied with the whole system of government. This can lead to outburst and protests by the people of the nation. So, what is the best way to increase civility in American politics? First, we can follow the ways of the people during the World War II period where partisan differences still existed but at the end of the day the government officials went back to their families where their wives and children were interacting with the wives and children of those with whom they had been debating with (Maisel, 409). In those times, the politicians worked together for one cause, which was to be united and progress with the well being of the nation. That is what the politicians in today’s world need to realize. The politicians in that era had certain rules they needed to abide by like they had to treat others involved with respect and civility. They also relied strictly on truth and not on the fact that they need to win no matter what the consequences to the nation are. This seems to be one of the biggest problems that the American politics has today. The US House of Representatives has it’s own set of rules that ensure that there is civility. The Congress has a set of rules that ensure that the disagreements in Congress are purely philosophical but not personal and that their views are legitimate even if they are wrong (Jamieson and Hardy, 412). This is exactly the type of rules that need to be set for regular debates and this will ensure that the members do not over step those boundaries. The House makes sure that the members do not call each other bad names or over step any boundaries that may cause them to lie. They are not even allowed to call their fellow members hypocritical even if they are being hypocritical. Their understanding is that each side needs to be heard and then they will come up with a compromise to make both parties accept it. In conclusion, the political incivility going on today is effecting the government in ways unimaginable. Politicians are not willing to run for office because of their fear of having their families or themselves ridiculed and talked about in an inappropriate manner, there is a big increase in violence during debates and the politicians of today are only focused on winning and not on the benefit of the greater good. There is a lot that needs to be improved before there could be any type of change in the political world. The government needs to set a variety of rules for debates just like the House of Representatives or the Senate has that will set a limit to the type of things the politicians can say to each other. This will minimize the political discourse today and help new politicians accomplish more and help the nation prosper in the future.

Free Essays on Zeus The Human Or Priam The God

In Homer’s Iliad, Priam, the human King of Troy, and Zeus, the divine King of the gods, are only separated by the gift of immortality. Homer compares and contrasts these great kings to show the results of this gift. Zeus is less invincible and imperturbable than he should be for his divine status. Both the divine King of the gods and the human King of Troy have a weakness for their children, which brings the mighty immortal god to the down to level of the lowly human. Homer draws these similarities between the divinity and the human in order to heighten the crucial difference in their lives and the lives of all other immortals and mortals like them. Throughout his life, Priam suffers; then he dies. Zeus on the other hand has never felt an ounce of true regret or pain because his life never ends; it is simply a game with no winner. Through Priam’s suffering, Homer shows the nobility of a tortured life as opposed to a life lived as a game. Zeus, King of the gods, has a weakness with regards to his children. When Sarpedon, Zeus’ son, is in the war path of Patroclus, Zeus ponders â€Å"whether [he] should snatch [Sarpedon] out of the sorrowful battle† to save him from certain death and â€Å"set him down alive† somewhere safe (Iliad, 16.436-437). â€Å"If [he] bring[s] Sarpedon back to his home, still living† the other gods will all want to save their favorites (Iliad, 16.445). Zeus follows the advice of his wife; he makes a decision that is best for the gods. It is best because the half-god children would all want to be saved by their respective divine parents. As a result of Zeus allowing his beloved son to die, Zeus shows that he can make difficult decisions against will of his aching heart in order to do what is best for his kingdom. Homer shows that Zeus can be levelheaded and wise- more so than Priam. He can always have another son, but the death of this beloved child affects him deeply. This loss of this one pa...

German Verb Future Tense Conjugations

German Verb Future Tense Conjugations In German, the  future tense  (das Futur) occurs less frequently than in English. Even more frequently than in English, German often substitutes the present tense for the future (Wir sehen uns morgen. - Well see you tomorrow.) However, German verbs do follow an easy-to-learn and predictable pattern in the future tense. Once you learn the pattern for just about any German verb, you know how  all  German verbs  are conjugated in the future. Even irregular verbs are no exception. Das Futur I: The Basics German uses the basic  werden infinitive  formula to form DAS FUTUR. To conjugate any verb in the future, you simply conjugate  werden  and add the infinitive of the verb you want to have in the future. Basically, if you can conjugate  werden, you can form the future tense of all verbs. The chart below shows a sample German verb in the  future tense. Spielen  - To PlayFuture Tense -   Futur I Deutsch English Sample Sentence SINGULAR ich werde spielen I will play Ich werde Basketball spielen. du wirst spielen you (fam.)will play Wirst du Schach spielen? To form the future perfect (das Futur II) in German, you take the past participle of the verb being conjugated (for example,  gespielt/played) and use it with a conjugated form of  werden. The infinitive of the helping verb (haben  or  sein) is placed at the end of the sentence: â€Å"Wir werden die ganze Nacht gespielt haben.† (We will have played all night.) Employee referral campaigns Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 500 words

Employee referral campaigns - Essay Example Another advantage of employee referral campaigns is that they help promote the brand value of a company through word-of-mouth publicity. In order for an existing employee to bring his contacts into the company, he/she must first have a positive perception about the status and worthiness of the company. On the flip side, a poor response to an employee referral campaign can usually indicate an unmotivated workforce perceiving no incentive either for themselves or for their contacts in availing job opportunities with the company. One other obvious advantage of an ERC is that it cuts down recruitment related expenditure by eliminating the need for advertising, job fairs, hiring agencies, etc. In certain domains, highly specialized positions are best filled through personal channels and not through traditional recuitment processes, making a case for ERCs. On the negative side, employee referral campaigns can also create conflict-of-interest scenarios for the management, when they make an assessment that is inconsistent with that of the referring employee's. For example, a candidate being recommended by an employee could be estimated to be either unsuitable or unqualified for the vacant position. In such a case, the management usually ends up causing disappointment for both parties by declining to hire.
